Taken: stuff I’ve been rewatching

I’ve been making my way through some of my non-Skyrim Christmas presents. Last week I finished watching Taken (2002), which happens to stand out – to me – as one of the better TV series that’s played around with an aliens SF theme in the last twenty years. (Note: beware of some small spoilers ahead.)

You may recall that Steven Spielberg had a hand in this series. It certainly shows the connection with a race of aliens that while seemingly cruel are just curious and space ship designs that are reminiscent of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The series is very different to The X-Files, mainly because the government conspiracy is far more as if the authorities are fumbling in the dark. However it still runs with the idea of aliens having abilities and technology beyond our own.

Unlike a lot of SF series, it follows a huge period of time, starting in 1947 and ending in 2002. It follows two families: the Clarkes and the Keys and their interactions with not just the aliens, but also each other.

While sentimental, it is definitely worth a watch sometime if you’ve never seen it before. It’s hard to explain why I like it so much, but I will say that Taken is less complicated than The X-Files and is more about the relationships between characters than anything else.
