Don’t feed the seagulls, for pity’s sake! (Esp. in #Truro, #Cornwall)

It’s half term this week. That means several things to me: there’s noticeably more kids about in Truro than usual; it’s harder to get cinema tickets and finally – there’s more tourists around than usual who happen to think that it is okay to feed the friggin’ seagulls.

Well, I’m here to tell you that it very much isn’t okay. DO NOT FEED THE SEAGULLS, PIGEONS, DUCKS OR LOCALS (
the last ones may bite).

For several years now, many of the bins in Truro have featured a pathetic poster asking people to put their rubbish in the bins to stop seagulls from getting at it. Problem is, there are far too many visitors who feel that it’s perfectly acceptable to feed the seagulls whilst they’re munching on their nommy food still.

Here Cornwall’s city, town and county councils could all do Cornwall a favour by putting signs in Truro and all the towns that say outright: DO NOT FEED THE SEAGULLS, PIGEONS, DUCKS OR LOCALS (
the last ones may bite).

Seriously, we need these signs or else I’m going to have to go around in a biohazard suit, collect bird crap in a bucket and then dump the contents over the heads of offending persons. While the prospect of tipping buckets of crap over peoples’ heads does appeal to me… I really, really don’t want to have to resort to it.

Really.
